Last year we published a blogpost about how 'We're all guilty' in which we discussed how impulsive and excessive consumption leads to a negative impact on the planet. Here at BB we're trying to change that, reflecting on shopping habits and the role the fashion industry plays in environmental change. This week we're focusing on the importance of small batch production and conscious consumerism to reassess the impact we have on the environment. What we're trying to say is that sustainability is in season and it always will be at BB!
At BB we work with nature, not against it; so our focus on supporting both planet and people is one of the core foundations of our business. Releasing limited quantities and made to order fashion helps avoid overproduction that drives so much of the fashion industry's environmental damage. Slow fashion means less waste, fewer emissions and timeless designs. Another way BB differs from fast fashion is that instead of using cheaper materials which have a short lifecycle, our natural fibres such as Cotswold Wool are made to last. We are super transparent with our customers about how our garments are crafted highlighting our full supply chain traceability and Ecologi partnership.
Aside from focusing on supporting the planet, we also focus on supporting people. Instead of utilising offshore labour which can cut costs, we support UK-based production from artisans which stresses the importance of ethical and local craftsmanship, alongside highlighting the often forgotten talent which is passed down through the generations within the UK. Choosing care over speed, values over volume, we demonstrate how our ethos influences everything we do.
As we explored in our 'We're All Guilty' blogpost last year, patterns of overconsumption such as scrolling through late-night sales and buying for trends rather than longevity is something we are all guilty of! Instead, by shifting towards seasonal, slow-fashion habits we can start to buy less, investing in staple pieces that last and tell a story. That's why our garments are versatile, meaning you can layer and style them across all seasons. Refocusing fashion as an emotional, lasting experience rather than an impulsive purchase means that we can give back to people and the planet, all whilst looking good!
