Every year, we get the opportunity to have a glimpse into the world of high fashion through Fashion Weeks across the globe. This year, during Paris Fashion Week, many designers showcased wool as part of their collections for Spring/Summer 2025. Let’s dive into three of my favourites this season!
Mossi
Mossi Traoré, a French fashion designer who also founded a haute couture school named Les Ateliers d’Alix, has previously used wool throughout numerous collections. As a fashion label, Mossi is an ethical, ready-to-wear brand, 100% made in France. His designs reflect not only his avant-garde approach, but also highlight his desire to reinvent haute couture fashion, by allowing these items to be easily integrated into everyday life.
This 2025 collection showcased splashes of blue amongst white and black, symbolising a new change for the brand this year. Mossi’s approach allows high fashion to change as we know it - by putting a larger emphasis on the importance of sustainability, and socially conscious fashion, as shown through Les Ateliers d’Alix, allowing underprivileged youth to gain valuable education. Now backed by Chanel, prepare to see more of Mossi’s creative endeavors (and a new generation of artists.)
Rick Owens
Rick Owens continues to shock the masses through his futuristic approach to fashion. This year, his collection included garments made with eco-certified wool; further highlighting the brand’s approach to sustainability and environmentalism.
As always, Rick Owens knows how to make a thought-provoking garment. While keeping to his signature elements of flowing fabrics, extravagant silhouettes, and large, statement boots, Owens dove into complete gothic drama - which was further accentuated from the materials used. Through the use of leather and other luxurious textiles, Owens is capable of creating such beautiful, artistic, and futuristic items, whilst highlighting his inspiration; Concordia, an industrial town in northern Italy. Sustainability played a huge part in this collection, featuring eco-certified wool thermals and water-saving denim, showcasing that his avant-garde approach is more than aesthetics, it's about environmental responsibility.
Kartik Research
Welcome back, Kartik Kumra. After debuting his label, Kartik Research, at last season’s Paris Fashion Week, and being the first Indian brand on the menswear calendar, we are able to watch Kartik make not just fashion statements, but cultural ones. Kartik prides themselves on reintroducing humanness to clothing, by ensuring all items designed have some sort of handmade element. Due to this, each item is able to have its own unique character, whilst reflecting India’s culture.
In his Spring/Summer 2025 collection, there is focus on everyday wear. Incorporating casual sportswear, elevated tailoring, and cultural signatures. Whilst using wool to blend traditional Indian textiles with contemporary designs, this allows the brand’s sustainability to shine through. The unique approach with patterns, colours, and combination of relaxed clothing with tailored items makes for a very interesting showcase from Kartik Research.
