Welcome to the best few weeks of the year - Fashion Week! A chance for us to gain an insight on the current trends, allowing designers to create the buzz across the fashion capitals and showcase incredible collections. As always, this season of global fashion weeks has caused huge commotion, with interesting showcases, storytelling, and the garments themselves. Let’s dive into the highlights from New York, London, and Milan, and discuss any upcoming trends!
New York Fashion Week, February 6th-11th 2025
Our fashion week opener, an iconic fashion week at the forefront of shaping the American evolution of fashion, New York. We often gain an insight into the vibe of other fashion weeks from New York, who had long-standing designers and emerging talent alike. This year, NYFW seriously set the tone for the big trends that’ll be arriving this season including;
- Menswear inspired looks.
- The 80s are back! Lots of oversized silhouettes, exaggerated shoulders, and tailoring throughout.
- Lots more vibrant colours, animal prints, embellishments, lace, bedazzling.
A majority of items are still kept classic but with an unexpected twist, inspiring guests to take unique approaches to styling. Instead of a simple, all-black skirt suit, designers like Tory Burch and Micheal Kors used varying textures and embellishments to keep interest. Furthermore, brands showed us that fashion is all about playing around with different silhouettes - we saw enlarged shoulders, wrap coats, asymmetrical dresses, a-line skirts, and cropped jackets. There’s something for everyone!
London Fashion Week, February 20th-24th 2025
An iconic place for all types of fashion, London. This year, London followed a slimmer schedule as many designers either chose to showcase digitally or took to other unique formats, such as 16Arlington’s Marco Capaldo, who hosted a ‘Dinner with Friends’ to unveil the brand’s latest collection, found here.
We also got the chance to meet some fresh faces at LFW, including Bloke, Keburia, and Jawara Alleyne, among others, who debuted. There was also a huge space for emerging talent, including; Johanna Parv (digital), Pauline Dujancourt (2024 LVMH Prize finalist, presenting her sophomore collection), Charlie Constantinou, and Talia Byre. This great new generation of designers helps keep fashion fresh with new perspectives and ideas.
We also were able to see a theatrical opening from Harris Reed. Florence Pugh opened with a reading based on Shakespeare’s 'All the world’s a stage' speech. This very theatrical, avant-garde approach to showcases was seen in other shows, including Edeline Lee, who had an action-packed presentation featuring female boxers, fencers, and gymnasts.
LFW showcased similar trends shown at NYFW, including 80s silhouettes, but also showcased metallics (specially silver), faux fur, and cropped trousers.
Milan Fashion Week, February 25th-3rd March 2025
Following London, we have the fashion capital of the world’s rendition, Milan. Known for following a simpler style, with more emphasis on tailoring than decoration, Milan had some show stopping moments. We saw the return of iconic fashion houses that didn’t make the mens including Gucci and Fendi.
DSQUARED2 had quite the iconic runway. From Doechii’s opening and a star-studded cast of models, to the entire preformative presentation, the brand has really solidified their past 30 years of work as ICONIC.
