There are few places more fitting to explore the future of sustainable fashion than Kew Gardens a living masterpiece of nature and science. This autumn, Beatrice Bayliss was proud to be part of Materials World, an inspiring event dedicated to celebrating innovation, craftsmanship and the beauty of natural materials.
Exploring the Future of Sustainable Design
Set among Kew’s lush glasshouses and botanical collections, Materials World brought together designers, scientists and creatives united by one vision to rethink the materials that shape our world. From plant-based textiles to biodegradable dyes, the event showcased how nature continues to inspire and inform modern design.
For us at Beatrice Bayliss, it was a joy to share our own journey crafting luxurious, sustainable knitwear made from ethically sourced Cotswold wool. Each piece embodies our belief that true luxury lies in longevity, integrity and respect for the environment.
Our Showcase at Kew
Our collection, displayed against the stunning backdrop of Kew’s greenery, reflected the harmony between fashion and nature. Visitors were able to feel the softness of pure, undyed wool, explore our contemporary silhouettes, and learn about our commitment to circular production and sustainable sourcing.
It was particularly inspiring to connect with others pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in ethical design from textile innovators experimenting with regenerative fibres to artisans reviving traditional techniques in modern contexts.
With a Shared Vision
What made the weekend so special was the shared sense of purpose. Every conversation, every connection, underscored how collaboration between science, design and craftsmanship is key to shaping a more sustainable future. At Beatrice Bayliss, we’ve always believed that fashion can be both beautiful and responsible and being part of Materials World was a powerful reminder that conscious design doesn’t mean compromise; it means creativity.
As we continue to innovate with natural fibres and mindful production, events like Materials World reaffirm our mission: to create knitwear that celebrates the elegance of simplicity and the intelligence of sustainability.
Thank you to the organisers, fellow designers and everyone who joined us at Kew Gardens your passion and curiosity inspire us to keep pushing forward.
