5 reasons to choose natural wool over acrylic!

Natural wool is often preferred over acrylic due to its inherent properties like breathability, durability, and environmental friendliness, as well as its comfort and ability to regulate body temperature. Acrylic, while more affordable and easier to care for, lacks some of these benefits. Below is a more detailed look at the advantages of natural wool:

1. Breathability and Temperature Regulation:

  • Wool is naturally breathable, allowing moisture to escape and keeping you cooler and more comfortable in hot weather.
  • It also retains heat well, making it a great choice for cold weather apparel.
  • Acrylic, on the other hand, can trap moisture and feel sticky and uncomfortable, and it doesn't regulate temperature as effectively as wool.

2. Durability and Longevity:

  • Wool is a naturally strong and elastic fiber, making it resistant to wear and tear.
  • Wool garments can last for years, even with regular use.
  • Acrylic tends to pill and degrade faster than wool.

3. Environmental Friendliness:

  • Wool is a renewable and biodegradable resource, while acrylic production is energy-intensive and contributes to pollution according to Stitches and Cream and greenhouse gas emissions according to The Needle Store.
  • Natural wool production relies on sustainable animal husbandry practices, unlike acrylic, which is a synthetic material produced from petroleum.

4. Comfort and Texture:

  • Many people find wool to be a more comfortable fabric to wear, with a natural drape and a luxurious feel.
  • While some may find wool scratchy, high-quality wool is often very soft and comfortable.
  • Acrylic can feel less natural and can be prone to static buildup.

5. Other Benefits:

  • Wool is naturally flame-resistant, helping to protect from burns.
  • It's also resistant to bacteria and dust mites, making it a good choice for those with allergies.
  • Acrylic can absorb odors and dirt, while wool is more resistant to this.
